Sangakkara to undergo finger surgery
Kumar Sangakkara, the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper, is set to undergo surgery in his right index finger in Australia. Sangakkara played through the recently concluded three-Test and five-ODI series against India nursing the injury
This isn't a time to give up, says Jayawardene
There's little a team can do once they've lost a series with a dead rubber to be played. Faced to confront a future that appears less than rosy, Mahela Jayawardene emphasized that it was important to get things right for his team and make sure they don't give up
Orthodoxy is the best form of attack
The success of the bowlers in a low-scoring series has left the batsmen with plenty to do as the bandwagon moves back to Colombo for the last three matches. The indifference of the batsmen in the first two matches in Dambulla has given both sides cause for concern, and both captains have banked on a more traditional ODI track to nudge ahead in the series

Kumar Sangakkara: Kid gloves
With Adam Gilchrist on the wane in the recent years, Kumar Sangakkara is arguably the world's premier batsman-wicketkeeper in ODIs and a star performer as a pure batsman in Tests. He averages 56.37 in Tests and, in the last three years, he has been piling runs at an impressive 69.26. He started his career as a batsman, took up the gloves before shedding them when Sri Lanka needed him as a top-order batsman. Powerful square of the wicket, he displays a repertoire of strokes all around the ground. In December 2007, he topped the ICC Test player rankings with a rating of 938, the highest position ever achieved by a Sri Lankan. All this and brains too: He is eloquent and erudite and currently pursuing a degree in law.

Like all good batsmen, Kumar Sangakkara produces his best when his team needs it the most. Many a time he has been the boy in the burning deck. Four of the five innings tabled here illuminate that trait. Where others failed, he stood up to be counted with some classy knocks.
